Ok, we all know water is the one element nothing can live without. Now the key word here is live.
Plants, animals, humans, etc. must have water in some form to live. So here is my question, what is the true value or worth of water?
Ben Franklin once said, "When the well is dry, we know the worth of water." This statement affects the worth we give the water we have, or in some cases don't have.
In Mexico you generally buy a 20gal. jug of drinking water to have at the office or at your home because the tap water isn't usually treated like it is in the USA. So, when a person goes to the store and buys a jug of drinking water he can pay anywhere from $9.00-$35.00 pesos for a single jug (it all depends on the brand name and where you buy it). Let's avarage this price out: $20.50 pesos per jug. That would put each gallon at about $1.03 pesos. Not bad considering that the exchange rate dollar-peso is around $1.00 to $12.80 m.n. That means, the gallon of drinking water in Mexico has an avarage value of $0.08 dollars.
Now let's take a look at the price of water in the USA. A bottle of drinking water costs anywhere between $0.59-$1.29 for a liter of water. Of course, there is name brand water that will cost more and there may be generic brands which may cost less. Considering these costs the price per gallon is $2.36-$5.16. and the avarage cost is: $3.76 per gallon. That is about 4700% more than in Mexico!!!
We see with this example that the value or worth of water in Mexico and USA changes...
Now, let me tell you a story about what happened in the country when the hurricane hit the Golf Coast and caused major damage to the northern part of Mexico. When the hurricane hit, rivers flooded and literally washed away most of the homes and roadways they came across. This, obviousley left many people homeless, jobless and of course in a state of panic and disorientation. The flooding caused damages to the water supply also. Sure there were millions of millions of gallons of water running through the streets and their livingrooms, but the water wasn't drinkable. So what happened to the drinking water? Because of the lack of supply and the inablilty to transport water and goods from other cities the prices of the water jugs became unbelievable. When a person normally could purchase a jug of water at $20.50 pesos, people were now having to pay no less than $150 pesos per jug. That is about 650% more than the avarage price.
The worth and the value of the water during this emergency circumstance elevated so high that many people couldn't afford it but made the utmost effort to gather the means to pay for it because it was an essential to their survival. They could have made a 'homemade' water filter using, sand, rocks, a tin can, and some peices of cloth instead of paying such a high price, but the water was so important for them that they didn't care how much the water cost.
It is amazing to me to see how we place an enormous value on certain things like cars, yachts, planes, homes, education, fuel and even water but completeley lose focus of Him who provides the means to fulfill our every need. We give a major importance to the extra things we would like and leave out the essentials. I have never gone without shelter, food, a bed, water(although most times I think I drink more soda). Yet the value I place in the things I don't have is much more than those things I have and have always had. And not to mention the value and worth I give the ONE who has provided me with all the necesary things
plus all the little extra things my selfish little me likes.
He is the most valuable asset I have. He is worth so much more than I can fathom. Yet I tend to let Him warm the bench while I try to make the 3 point shot and win the game, when there is no doubt in my beeing that He is bigger, stronger and better than anything I can do.
Lord, You are my everything and my all. Without you and the worth you have given mw thourhg your Son, I am nothing.
I LOVE YOU!!!
